Today I beat (well, sort of) one of the best games I have played in a long time, ‘Zack and Wiki: Quest for Barbaros’ Treasure,’ for the Nintendo Wii. I read a bunch of awesome reviews of the game before it came out, and it was one that I honestly just had to have. It is a puzzle game, where you have to solve the often times very difficult puzzle of each level to advance. The game is similar to a Rube Goldberg contraption, where you everything you do has to fall in its correct place for completion of each level.
It’s pretty ingenious, actually, making a game where you have to do nothing but think, and think hard. Skill or hand-eye coordination is thrown out of the window with this game, as it concentrates on critical thinking as well as thinking outside of the box. I had a hard time with it on several occasions, and it took me almost 20 hours of gameplay to complete it, but it was well worth it. And I still have a ways to go, as there is a lot of secret treasure left to find, apparently.
Of course, this game is just to tide me over until Super Mario Galaxy comes out on Tuesday. Galaxy is supposed to be the game of the year by far, so it promises to capture most of my gaming attention for a while. But until then, I have some treasure to find.

Ok, so we had a pretty big weekend for sports, and I have a few random thoughts about what’s going on. Here they are, in no particular order:
The Patriots beat the Colts … barely. So what? They didn’t blow them out of the water like everyone thought they would and they really didn’t even look that impressive until the end. The Patriots set a franchise record for most penalty yards in a game. Also, the Colts were sans their best WR, Marvin Harrison, and their third option Gonzales for the second half. And did you see Addai run all over the “great” Patriots defense? Oh, and two of the Colts’ top defenders got banged up as well. Maybe it’s just me, but give the Colts a fully healthy team, and we’ll see the same outcome as last year. Just watch.
Adrian Peterson is the fuckin’ man. Think he isn’t running with a chip on his shoulder to prove to the other 6 teams that passed on him that they made a mistake? Shit, the guy is killing me in my fantasy football league, and making me frustrated that I didn’t have him higher on my draft sheet. Will he break the season rushing yards record? No, not this season. Maybe next year though.
LSU is ranked number 2 in the country. How the hell does that happen? Talk about a big school bias. Kansas is still undefeated, and granted they haven’t beaten anybody really impressive, neither has LSU. Oregon is ranked #3, and should be higher considering they knocked off the previous #4 and undefeated Arizona State, they beat up the then ranked #10 USC Trojans, and they went in to the Big House and beat a fairly decent and surging Michigan team at the beginning of the season. If Kansas and Ohio State win out, sure, let them play for the championship. But to have a lackluster LSU team ahead of the Ducks is crazy. The Pac-10 continues to get no love.
Boise State vs. Hawaii for the WAC championship on November 23 (my birthday). Mark your calendars, I’m calling it right now. It might be one of the best games of the year for the whole country. The two teams are on a collision course, and Hawaii could very well be still undefeated going into that game and looking to make a splash in the BCS polls, much like Boise State did last year. Should be FANTASTIC!
The NBA season started. Does anyone really care yet? Nope, didn’t think so. Not until after the Superbowl does the NBA start to get some attention. Just the way it goes, my friends.

So we’re taking some family pictures tonight. Should be fun as always, right? I mean, come on, who doesn’t like sitting and waiting in a cramped little photography studio to get some portraits snapped.
I think for next time, I’m going to vote for an outside type of picture experience, like in the summer or late spring. Change it up a bit from the norm, ya know?

Early in the morning, risin’ to the street
Light me up that cigarette and I strap shoes on my feet
Got to find a reason, a reason things went wrong
Got to find a reason why my money’s all gone
I got a dalmation, and I can still get high
I can play the guitar like a mother fucking riot
Well, life is (too short), so love the one you got
‘Cause you might get runover or you might get shot
Never start no static I just get it off my chest
Never had to battle with no bulletproof vest
Take a small example, take a tip from me
Take all of your money, give it all to charity
Love is what I got
It’s within my reach
And the Sublime style’s still straight from Long Beach
It all comes back to you, you’ll finally get what you deserve
Try and test that you’re bound to get served
Love’s what I got
Don’t start a riot
You’ll feel it when the dance gets hot
Lovin’, is what I got, I said remember that
Lovin’, is what I got, I said remember that
Lovin’, is what I got, I said remember that
Lovin’, is what I got
(That’s) why I don’t cry when my dog runs away
I don’t get angry at the bills I have to pay
I don’t get angry when my Mom smokes pot
Hits the bottle and goes right to the rock
Fuckin’ and fightin’, it’s all the same
Livin’ with Louie dog’s the only way to stay sane
Let the lovin’, let the lovin’ come back to me
Lovin’, is what I got, I said remember that
Lovin’, is what I got, I said remember that
Lovin’, is what I got, I said remember that
Lovin’, is what I got, I got I got I got

So today/tonight was Halloween. It was pretty uneventful and an otherwise normal day for me, but for the kids, it was a pretty cool night. Getting all dressed up in their costumes was a blast, as it was Caleb’s first Halloween that he actually understood (kinda) what was going on. We had fun Trick-or-Treating, as it didn’t take Caleb all but two houses to nail down the procedure. It was fun, and it was even better just because we all spent some good quality time together as a family.
I swear though, some kids these days are ridiculous. Before heading out, we handed out candy from our house. One group of kids I dealt with almost made me want to walk out and punch out their parents. When I gave one kid a couple of pieces of candy, he replied, “Is that it?” I ignored him and started grabbing some more candy for his partner in crime, who looked at what I had in my hand and said, “I don’t like that kind of candy.” I was pissed. I mean, it was Snickers for crying out loud. But the audacity of those little brats was incredible.
I’m just amazed how parents raise their kids some times. Not to say my boys are perfect, but shit, my two year old was saying please and thank you and bye-bye to every single person. It isn’t that hard to show a little appreciation and gratitude now and then. If a toddler can do it, anyone should be able to do it.
